FAQ

  1. Do you use an audio engineer for all recordings?
Yes, our rates include the cost of our in-house audio engineer.  We prefer to utilize this approach as it will be the most efficient and provide the best experience when recording in our studio.  No one knows the environment, equipment and routing better than our engineer.
  2. Can I bring beats or karaoke audio in and record over those?
Yes!  Rappers, solo vocalist and the like are welcomed to bring their tracks into the studio.  We will convert those into a project file and record just your voice.
  3. What can I do while I am not recording?
We have a private lounge area which includes a refrigerator and microwave.  Additionally, we have a projector & pull down movie screen for the best in PS3 or movie entertainment.  You are welcomed to utilize these rooms or take a walk downtown Boone to visit local attractions, lounges and restaurants.
  4. Can I just record audio?
Yes, although I think you'll find our price reasonable and the environment rewarding.  We offer a complete service line to finish your project.
  5. Do you have the ability to DI and record with a mic simultaneously?
Yes, although I think you'll find our price reasonable and the environment rewarding.  We offer a complete service line to finish your project.
  6.  I want to record my guitar today, but want to spend time during mixdown to dial in the perfect tone or select the best cabinet.  Is this possible?

The beauty of technology shines here!  We can DI your guitar track and revisit it at any time in the future by reamping the original and recorded DI track.

We utilize a Radial Reamp box to send a DI signal  from the Digital Audio Workstation to any guitar head or cabinet.  Then find the perfect mic and position and push "play" on our DAW.  Then we record a new version of the guitar through the amp, cabinet or microphone combination you find best.  Don't like the new recording.  No worries, we will push play again and make a change to either the mic, amp, positon, or cabinet.

You no longer have to settle for one take and regret or change your mind about the tone of your guitar, the day you recorded.  Now, you can replay that original recorded take over and over again... only your not playing it, the DAW is playing the guitar excatly the way you performed it perfectly, days ago.

  7. Do you have equipment  & musical instruments for rent?

Yes, we can rent any of the equipment or rooms at our studio for a flat fee or negotiate it as a part of package.  We have percussion, drums and a keyboard available.  Because of the high cost and sensitivity to the electronics, we will not rent studio equipment outside the studio premises.

  8. I am traveling from out of town, where can I sleep?

There are two hotels within minutes of the studio.  Let us know your travel plans ahead of time and we assist you in negotiating a rate.  If you are on a budget, bring a sleeping bag.  You are welcomed to camp out at the studio.  As a third option, the Boone county fairgrounds is within minutes and also offers camping.

  9. Can I tour the studio before committing to recording with Forte?
You bet!  Frankly, we suggest you visit the studio and our engineer before starting any project.  We offer free consultation, estimates and tours.  We know you have options and we want you to consider Forte Studios not just as an option, but also a resource that edcuates on the principles and science to look for in a top notch studio.

  10. What are the advantages & disadvantages of recording at home?

In some cases, your goals and needs may be met by recording at home.  Specifically, we should ask what your goal is and is it witihin budget and do you have the time to dedicate?

If your goal is to provide a fully produced band recording ready for radio, sale or television, then it is likely not in your budget or available time to record from home.  It takes tens of thousands of dollars in professional equipment, not including the room environment to produce a product that meets these standards.  Additionally, if the environment isn't built correct, you may spend many hours during mix down to get the perfect sound or accept a substandard product.

We know from personal experience.  There is a difference between a designed sound environment and a basement or home garage.  When we give you a tour of the studio, I'll show you our home recording projects, which consisted of over 60 hours of mixing one song, then show you a raw track from the studio which has no mixing.  The difference is clear, literally!

If you're convinced home reocrding is the way to go, we can help you with it!  By taking the time to tour our studio, you will gain valuable insight into the science and techniques behind producing great recordings.  Then, you decide what post or pre-production parts you have the money and time to accomplish and we will take care of the rest.

Our rates have been designed to give you a Return on Investment (ROI) that cannot be achieved by building a home studio.  This is why we offer a tiered recording and mixing price structure, dependent on the complexity of the project.  We are able to offer rates that can't be matched by any equivalent studio and certainly can't be matched by purchasing equipment through guitar center, musicians friend or the like.  We will use an Neumann U87ai or similar microphone to record your voice.  To purchase just the microphone will cost over $4,000 retail.  This dosen't include the DAW, preamps and cabling.   Focus on the art of your music or audio project and let us do the work for you.

  11. Do you work weekends?

Yes and evenings.  We schedule by appointment.

  12.  I have a producer and professional recording engineer, can I use them at your studio?
Yes, we will provide a negotiated estimate for the rent of the entire studio, equipment and assistant engineer.  You can self-produce or record your project using our facilities.
